Spare Wheel Mounted 4x4 Accessories

Carrying a spare wheel is a necessity for every driver. But it's particularly important for those exploring the road less travelled. 4x4 vehicles often carry their spare wheel vertically on the rear door. This allows for more equipment, fuel or supplies to be carried on top or within the vehicle.

At Wheeliams we design products which help increase the capacity and capability of 4x4, overland and vanlife vehicles. We wondered whether we could design some 4x4 accessories which would make use of the dead space created around a door-mounted spare wheel.

We've developed three products so far. Two of these allow for additional kit to be stowed on and around the spare wheel. The other makes it easy to carry recovery boards where they're easy to access should you get bogged down in sand, snow or mud.

Cargo Carrier

Our Spare Wheel Mounted Cargo Carrier makes use of the dead space above your spare wheel. Our innovative design is suitable for any vehicle carrying a spare wheel vertically on the rear door.

 

From Jeeps to a Jimnys, this universal luggage rack makes it easy to store additional kit on the outside of your vehicle. Simply slide the ratchet strap around the circumference of the tyre and tighten until secure. Read our comprehensive fitting instructions for more detail.

Thoughtfully positioned holes in the rack allows for rain, snow and mud to run off easily. These can also be used to secure Jerry cans, bags, boxes or whatever else you need to stow. They also reduce the weight of the rack, meaning you can carry more of what matters.

Spare Wheel Mounted Cargo Carrier

Cargo Tray

Inspired by the Cargo Carrier, our handy Cargo Trays are smaller and lighter than their bigger brother. They can be mounted on top or at any angle around your spare tyre, providing more space to carry additional luggage.

As with the larger version, these handy Cargo Trays are powder coated in black. This version can be flat-packed for storage when not in use and have a load area of 500mm x 270mm.

Used in combination with the Cargo Carrier, our Cargo Trays make it easy to maximise the space around your spare wheel, so you can carry more kit.

Recovery Track Mount

Getting stuck in the mud or sand can spell disaster, if you're not equipped to get yourself out. Our Wheel Mounted Recovery Mount makes it easy to carry your recovery boards, keeping them accessible should you find yourself in a sticky situation.

This innovative universal design fits tyres between 28" and 34" diameter. The mount itself can hold 2 varieties of recovery tracks, which are widely available:

• AUTOFONDER 10T  Reinforced Nylon Board – 910mm x 310mm
• MAXTRAX MK2 FJ - Reinforced Nylon Board – 1150mm x 330mm

Three strap beams sit on the outer edge of the tyre, at 12 o'clock, 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock positions. A ratchet strap secures them in place, and the boards are bolted to the bracket. Simple!
